There are numerous places to find standard stair treads; therefore, we do not manufacture the typical 1" to 1.5" treads. Instead, we specialize in thick butcher block treads explicitly designed for floating and open staircases. While most manufacturers offer tread thickness in half-inch increments, we provide our butcher block treads in quarter-inch increments, starting at 2 inches and going up to 3.75 inches.
It's important to note that 3.75 inches should be the maximum tread thickness required to meet IRC building code standards for any staircase with a compliant riser height. If we complete the design, we will tell you which thickness is optimal for your unique staircase. We will also make and ship whichever thickness you or your contractor determines.
About Our Treads Design Process
When designing your staircase, we base our plans on the unique specifications obtained from the field measurements provided by your contractor. Once we determine the rise of each step, we can inform you about the required tread thickness to ensure compliance with building codes.
Our standard tread depth is 11 inches, and standard widths are 36", 42", and 46". We can customize the depth and width to meet your specific needs.
We proudly offer high-quality hardwood treads in White Oak, Red Oak, Maple, and Hickory. Other wood species may also be available, but we must check with our suppliers before supplying those treads. This information will be finalized as we progress through your project.
