Our Mono, Double and Sandwich stringer designs
Art Walker Stair Design specializes in constructing fully custom staircases, offering both mono stringer and double stringer designs. Our standard mono stringer uses a 6" square steel tube as its foundation, while our standard double stringer is built with 5" x 2" steel tubes.
In addition, we can create a double stringer design in which the large steel tubes "sandwich" the treads, with the tubes also functioning as a skirtboard for the stairs. Our standard "sandwich" staircase employs 12" x 2" steel tubing.
We can meet your specific needs with three different designs of staircase; straight, 90 degree turn with a landing, or 180 degree turn with a landing also called a scissor back staircase.
C-CHANNEL STRINGERS
We do not offer interior staircases that use a large C-channel stringer. Our experience has shown that the handling of large C-channels during transport and storage from the mill to our shop often results in warped or bowed materials, which is unacceptable for the high-end homes where our work is featured. However, we can use C-channels for commercial applications if desired.
